What is the Inception Meeting?

The Inception Meeting was the first of a series of three official events comprising Oceans 20 Brazil, which took place on March 18, 2024, at the G20 House in the state of Rio de Janeiro (also known as the Lara Alvim Cultural House), in Ipanema. The event featured messages from national and international authorities and represented the opening of the O20 proceedings.

What was the purpose of the event?

The Inception Meeting aimed to reinforce the relevance of the Ocean theme within the G20 framework and to present the organizing institutions of O20, their operational strategy (conceptual note), and initiate discussions on topics such as financing for a sustainable and equitable blue economy, the ocean-climate nexus, and marine management and conservation.

Who are the supporters? 

The event was supported by the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro, especially by the State G20 Commission, the Rio G20 Committee, the Clean Ocean Network, the Ilhas do Rio Project, and the Rio de Janeiro City Hall.
